BEVERLY DOXTATER
MohawkTurtle ClanBeverly resides at Six Nations of the Grand River. She is well known for her finely crafted and extremely detailed action dolls. These dolls are constructed by wrapping the cornhusks over an armature, a technique she learned from her sister, Debbie Doxtater in 1998. Bev has created a wide variety of original dolls including wedding couples, lacrosse players, and jingle dress dancers. She has also produced multi-figure compositions including a powwow grand entry complete with drummers, veterans, and an honor staff carrier. In 2023, her series representing residential school and murdered and missing indigenous women and two-spirit individuals travelled to 13 locations with the Association of Native Child & Family Services Agencies in Ontario to focus attention on these critical issues. Bev’s work is in numerous private collections and the collections of the Mashantucket Pequot Museum (Ledyard, CT).
